FOLKLIFE HERE STAGE - TUCSON MEET YOURSELF
In-person free events
The Southwest Center proudly sponsors Tucson Meet Yourself, and this year two of our own are taking the stage. On Saturday, the Folklife Here Stage in the Smithsonian’s Of the People Village hosts a Southwest Center double bill. At 4:00 pm, Dr. Estevan Azcona presents Delgado Luthiers alongside Manuel A. Delgado, a third-generation Nashville luthier carrying on a family craft tradition that dates back to 1928, whose instruments have been exhibited at the Smithsonian. Then at 7:30 pm, SWC Director Dr. Jennifer Jenkins presents Southern Arizona Home Movies: Midcentury Folklife on Film, a screening and conversation drawn from decades of amateur footage: birthday parties, parades, first days of school, babies in the bath. Watch the edges of the frame, where the storefronts, fashions, foodways, and landscapes of the midcentury borderlands quietly steal the show. Come for the guitars, stay for the home movies, and fill the three hours in between with festival food. We’ll see you there!
