Join us for a unique musical evening in the heart of the Sonoran Desert, where traditional sounds from coastal Veracruz meet the landscape of Saguaro National Park. From Veracruz to Sonora brings together three local Son Jarocho "fire keepers"—Marc David Pinate, our very own Estevan Azcona, and Adrian Perez—for an intimate outdoor concert exploring the lyrical, poetic, and cultural dimensions of this powerful musical tradition.

Son Jarocho is a centuries-old genre that blends Indigenous, African, and Spanish musical traditions into vibrant expressions of resistance, community, and identity. With its roots in southern Veracruz, the music draws on oral poetry, call-and-response singing, and traditional stringed instruments such as the jarana, requinto, and harp. In the desert, it takes on new meaning, resonating with regional histories and contemporary borderland experiences.

This concert is part of the Desert Dwellers Mini Concert Series, which highlights the musical, artistic, and cultural connections that shape life in arid lands and border regions.
