The Untold Story: Migrant Deaths Along the US-Mexico Border and Beyond.

On Wednesday, October 16 at 10 AM AZ Time, the Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS) will host a webinar and discussion, "The Untold Story: Migrant Deaths Along the US-Mexico Border and Beyond."

The Journal on Migration and Human Security will soon release a special edition issue, “Forced Migration, Deterrence, and Solutions to the Non-Natural Disaster of Migrant Deaths Along the US-Mexico Border and Beyond,” which includes contributions by Southwest Center's Robin Reineke, and Dan Martínez. Authors of this special edition will discuss their articles and findings on migrant deaths along the US-Mexico border and beyond. They also will explain how US border enforcement and asylum policies can contribute to the number of deaths.

Speakers include:

  • Courtney Beth Siegert, Postdoctoral Scholar, Anthropology, Texas State University
  • Daniel E. Martínez, Associate Professor of Sociology and Co-Director, Binational Migration Institute, University of Arizona
  • Heather J H Edgar, Professor, Forensic Anthropologist, Office of the Medical Investigator; Director, Bridge Lab, University of New Mexico

The webinar will be moderated by Donald Kerwin, Editor of the Journal on Migration and Human Security/former Executive Director of the Center for Migration Studies of New York.

CMS Executive Director, Mario Russell, will give opening remarks.
