Led by David Yetman, the journey takes us to the beautiful colonial-era city of Álamos and surrounding tropical deciduous forest. We then venture down to the Sea of Cortez for a day at the Navopatia Field Station, a bird observatory on the edge of Sonora’s largest mangrove estuary and in the midst of the great organ pipe cactus forest known as El Pitayal. Our explorations focus on the relationship between humans and the region’s landscapes, paying close attention to the complexities of conservation and care for threatened ecosystems.
